Bukonzo Dream - Our Dreamy New Ugandan Coffee

  • 2 min read

We’re so excited to introduce you to the latest coffee in our Autumn line-up, the incredible Bukonzo Dream.

We first tasted this coffee a few months back at the cupping event with our friends, Omwani Coffee. There were a lot of amazing coffees on the table that night, but this coffee in particular jumped out at us. We got in touch with them for some samples, and after tasting, we knew straight away that we had to add it to our offering.

The name of this coffee is derived from The Bukonzo Tribe. The tribe is a group of descendants living throughout the Rwenzori Mountains, covering both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Individuals of the tribe do not necessarily identify as citizens of either country, instead choosing to announce their Bukonzo heritage.

Our import partner Omwani, work closely with the washing station manager, Chris, whose is from the tribe. Chris relayed that his dream would be to have coffee from the Bakonzo people roasted and enjoyed by the people of the UK. Fast-forward and this then became a reality, which in turn has been a great success! And that is how Bukonzo Dream was born.

At the washing station, lots are organised by geographic regions, coordinated with specialist buying centres, often broken down even further into specific day-lots. The main focus is on controlling the natural processing of the cherries, while paying special attention to controlling quality. To do this, they utilise round-the-clock techniques, constantly refining their processes to create the best possible Rwenzori coffee.

For us, this is everything we look for in an African coffee. Packed full of fruit, with a slight boozy note, you can expect to taste notes of blueberry and kiwi from this exceptional coffee.

Treat yourself to a bag.
